This listed Devon thatched cottage has many beautiful features throughout, old beams, wooden screens, leaded windows and gently sloping floors to name a few. However, the Master bedroom completely lacked any soul, despite the beautiful South facing feature window and shaped ceiling.

The walls were magnolia, the bedside tables were pine units bought when newly married and too small and uninspiring for the room. The bedding was a cool turquoise which made the black frame of the bed frame look harsh and the lighting was cold and impractical. It’s a busy household with

young children and numerous pets, I wanted to give these clients a retreat for a bedroom, a quiet space to curl up with a book, somewhere to switch off. We had a tight budget, but we managed to change the feel of the room and give our clients a much deserved sense of well being and cosy calm.
